Why?
The germinal matrix is where new nail cells are produced. These are new ‘green shoots’, to be readily infected as a fungal dermaphytes food source. Is This Painful?

What Happens After Nails Are Removed?
Nails are designed in nature if damaged and come off, to grow back quickly. Nail beds quickly heal up in 5 – 7 days dependent on good post operative dressing care . The nail beds dry out with little to no scabbing. Once the nail bed is dry a patient is advised to start a course of 4 Lunula laser treatments. These are spaced out at 7 – 10 day intervals.

Case Study
Patient CJ presented with 9 chronically fungal infected nails. They were treatment resistant. Nothing worked and patient had suffered with them for many years. He was despondent and desparately seeking a treatment that worked. He was advised after exploring all other treatment options to have all 9 occluded nails removed, followed by a course of 4 lunula laser treatments. This option would ensure all infection was removed and significantly reduce the risk of re-infection. Just 1 infected nail could raise the risk factors of re-infection.
The surgery would be performed during 2 sessions during 2 week period.. Each session involved removing a couple of nails from both feet to reduce discomfort levels.
