A thorough consultation is required to determine suitability for foot filler injections. It is important to assess foot function and the biomechanical stresses that go through the foot when active. Good footwear and orthotics need to be considered. Katrina will offer this advice as part of a treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some answers to our most asked questions

Who Would Benefit from Dermal Filler Cushioning?

Foot fillers injections are great for feet with reduced fatty padding and forefoot pain. Adding cushioning makes it more comfortable to wear footwear, standing and walking. Painful corns and calluses can be padded out. No need to wear additional padding for relief.

Foot Problems which can benefit:

  • Toe deformities
  • Painful corns
  • Metatarsalgia (forefoot pain)

Dermal fillers are recommended whereby conventional podiatric attempts have failed in alleviating foot pain. Negate the need to have padding stuck to the foot which can impede on hygiene and look unsightly.

What is Foot Filler Injections?

Foot filler injections are the application of injecting  dermal fillers into the foot. An advanced procedure whereby specialised hyaluronic fillers are used. These plump up the balls of the feet and cushion toe joints. This reduces pain. Painful  weight bearing pressures and friction are reduced.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers primarily are used in aesthetic procedures to plump up, smooth out, and contour. Comprised of hyaluronic acid(HA). A synthetic viscous gel form. No animal derived ingredients. HA  occurs naturally within the body. Present in the skin, joints and eyes. It is hydrophilic whereby it attracts water molecules to ‘plump’ up, cushion. Keeps structures supple and flexible. A natural substance which in time naturally breaks down.

How are Dermal Fillers Used in the Foot?

The fillers are carefully injected in small volumes underneath the skin subcutaneously. The fillers are not injected deeply into joints or other underlying anatomical structures. Cushioning helps  to restore volume and structure. The fillers will not affect the shape or look of the foot.  Patients who have had the treatment often remark; “it feels like I am walking on pillows”.

Is it a Painful Treatment?

Only safe and approved dermal fillers are used. Analgesia is often required for complete pain relief. The sole of the foot is highly innervated, so a nerve block is recommended. The treated areas can feel bruised and sore on average for 1 – 2 weeks. It is recommended to take it easy after treatment and wear deflective padding or insoles.

Is it a Safe Procedure?

Yes, it is a safe procedure performed in specialist hands. Katrina is a podiatrist who fully understands the anatomical structures of the foot. Fillers used have proven track record of safety. Nerve blocks are mimimally invasive and low risk.

How Long Does a Dermal Filler Treatment Take to Perform?

Time taken to inject filler depends on the size of the area and location. 30 minutes for single toes and  1 – 11/2 hours for ball of foot.

How Long do the Fillers Last?

Dermal foot filler injections can last 12-18 months . HA will slowly break down to be naturally absorbed  and safely eliminated by the body. The actual process of injecting stimulates new collagen formation. This means therefor when filler has broken down the thickness of tissues has increased. Effects can last up to 2 years.

Application of 3LT During Dermal Filler Foot Cushioning

An Erchonia low level laser(3LT) can be used pre and after procedure to accelerate healing and minimise infection. This is unique to Compleet Feet. The lasers are FDA cleared for pre and post-operative surgical purposes. Podiatrists are skilled in padding the foot to off-load treated areas for optimal results.

Consultation

A thorough consultation is required first to check patient suitability. Patients may be recommended specialist insoles to improve foot functioning. A basic preliminary consultation can be carried out online, but time will be added prior to performing procedure on day of arrival.
