Hard Skin Removal

Did you notice there were less hard skin removal products advertised this Christmas? Why was this? Products are bought by people who have underlying health issues e.g. poor circulation, mobility, flexibility therefore adverse problems result with injuries and infections. Boots go to great lengths to stress on their website the potential risks associated with callus removing products. Not only can they cause injury, but in most cases, they are not up to the job. Recurring hard skin can be sign of irregular walking patterns; early sign of bigger issues e.g. joint pain, ultimately requiring replacement. Get checked out to see if preventative podiatry can stop this. You may just need a simple insole. DIY chiropody can cause more problems  than it solves!

New Discovery of the ‘Superfungi’

Just as we have antibiotic resistant ‘superbugs’ we also have treatment resistant nail fungus. The reason why many fungal nail treatments fail with high re-infection rates is due to a biofilm in the nail plate. Biofilms are barrier structures formed by micro-organisms which stop drug penetration. Within these biofilms dormant fungal spores get trapped. These later become active start off infection again. Frustrating! Most effective way to treat longstanding nail infections is to remove the nail plate then laser, as more than likely there will be a presenting biofilm. Success rate for nail removal and laser to encourage strong new healthy nail growth is approximately 98%. Very high and taking a nail off is quick, simple and relatively painless. Not as gory as it sounds. Nail beds heal up very quickly and the Lunula laser accelerates fast healthy nail regrowth.

Dermatophytoma

Above: Nail above has a biofilm. We call these dermatophytomas. They look like simple infections, spread quickly, but they are not. Hard to treat, best solution is to remove nail plate if conservative treatments e.g. Clearanail drill increased drug penetration fails.

Compleet Feet are offering a £50 discount on all nail surgery laser packages until March 1st, 2018.
